Decadència Viva

about

Contemplating on life, death, and transformations this composition is based on a site-specific sound installation that explored the old chapel Santa Susanna in El Polell, Spain.

The sacristy of the chapel once was the center of religious ceremonies that accompanied the transitional phases of life, like birth and death. For decades the chapel lay abandoned. In these times it transitioned itself. It was transformed. With the old means vanished, it decayed but new forms of life moved in. Ivy and ants. Moths and cracks.

This composition is a sonic fusion of what was once present and what took over. Past and present reunite.

Originally all sounds and voices were located in different spots in and around the sacristy in a 6-channel-installation. The presentation took place during Audiotalaia Summer Camp 2018. The residency was made possible by the European Cultural Foundation and Compagnia di San Paolo.
